5 minute messy play activity: Chickpea foam

5 minute messy play activity: Chickpea foam

Chick pea foam was the best sensory messy play activity

The other day I decided to make some sensory taste safe play foam for the kids. I’d been watching all these messy play ideas and felt like it had been so long since I’d done something like this at home. Luckily I’d already bout some canned chickpeas months earlier so I had everything I needed at home. Because PJ (4) and Ruby (18 months) LOVED IT!!!

So here is how we made it..

What you need:

  • 2 cans of chickpeas
  • Food colouring
  • Cream of tartar

Here is what we did

  1. Drained the liquid of two cans of chickpeas into a mixing bowl (save the chickpeas for hummus – yum!).
  2. Add about 10 drops of food colouring and ½ tsp of cream of tartar.
  3. Using a stand mixer or a hand mixer beat for 5 mins until a fun foam texture appears.
  4. Place the mixture in a plastic tub/tray on a wipeable service for easy cleaning. Add some utensils, cups, sppons etc for play.
  5. Let your little ones explore.

This was such a fun 5 minute set up activity for creating a sensory play experience for your babies and toddlers. It’s taste safe and keeps them so occupied. They loved the messy play, getting to squish the foam through their fingers. And I was able to set it up and do some work nearby while they were happy and engaged in their activity. I loved watching their little faces light up. Plus, when we were finished, I wiped off the excess then took to mat outside to wash off. It was so quick and easy to clean up. If you are new to messy and sensory play then this is a super easy activity to try.
